Login Session Issues - Fixed!?
Published on 8/12/25, 12:19 PM
Hey Gamers, BloodyIron here.
We received recent reports that logging into the main LANified! website was not behaving as one would expect. Some pages would act as if you were logged in, some would not. So we recently investigated what that was about.
We were able to reproduce the issue pretty reliably, but it took a lot of time to identify some sort of reliable pattern of where logging in to the site looked like it "worked" and where it looked like it "did not work". A temporary work-around was to just hit F5 and refresh the page, but to us that was an unacceptable solution as you shouldn't have to put up with such shoddy work from us.
Eventually I figured out what the cause of it was and it looks like we have solved the problem. So far we cannot reproduce the issue any more. So if you have issues logging into the site, no matter what the issue is, please let us know on the Feedback & Help section.
Seriously, if you have problems with our site, we REALLY need you to tell us! We work hard to get ahead of any problems, but we are still humans, and there are times we miss things. This particular issue also affected other sites we run such as LANified! IT Services and Bloodyiron.ca, both of which we have applied the solution to.
Other noteworthy upcoming stuff:
- Our next event is in November: LANified! 37: Groundswell come join us!
- We also plan to put tickets for this online in the next few days.
- We are currently working on shifting LANified! HUB into public Beta phase. The majority of the core aspects are operational and we're just working on some remaining aspects. We are aiming to have an embedded web chat client on that page which will use your LANified! Account in a modern communication ecosystem. Desktop and Mobile apps for the LANified! HUB ecosystem are not currently in-scope for the Beta phase as we want to ensure the ecosystem is providing the functionality we are aiming for and is reliable before we start adding on those time-expensive endeavours. You will hopefully see the embedded web chat on the LANified! HUB page in the next few days (as of when this news post goes public).
- We are currently working to drastically overhaul and improve our event pages. This will primarily be restructuring of the page to hopefully better explain what the events are all about to those with zero context or those with limited knowledge of our events. We feel that the event pages have not been doing a "good enough" job in this area and have been working against us. Additionally there are features on the event pages that have been functional since January 2025 that aren't sufficiently self-evident that I want to make a lot more clear. One example is that we already have the ecosystem for our tournaments to Create/Join Teams, Send/Accept/Reject Team/Clan Invites, and a whole lot of Clan stuff. However that functionality does not expose itself visually until you register for an event, so this looks to have worked against us, despite me trying to keep the experience "slim and efficient". Sorry about that! There's other stuff we want to do to the Event pages too, some of which you can already see hints of. Examples include LAN Exclusive Server info, Event Reviews, and some other stuff. Plus the Event Pages are now running slower than I'm happy with so I'm likely to hit that aspect with a hammer for a while. As with anything we want to hear your thoughts on this, so please let us know on the Feedback & Help section please.
- We have been adding a whole lot more Games to our Games DB, and if you want to see us add more, again please let us know on the Feedback & Help section. Multiple features (and more over time) on the site pull content from the Games DB, so adding more Games helps those be better. A few examples you might care about that use the Games DB:
- Tournaments: When we create a Tournament, we select which Game it is for. This saves us time because the Games DB already has a banner, title, and other details for each game in it, so we don't have to fill that in manually each time we create a tournament. We also don't have to worry about what size of image to expect for each Game as we only use one image per game with the exact same dimensions each time.
- Event Registration: When a gamer wants to register for one of our events, they are asked what games they want to play. As said gamer types in names of games they want to play, the games presented are the ones in the Games DB. One upside is that the gamer is not presented with an insanely long list of options (such as the full game list on STEAM), and instead are presented with a curated set of options matching what they type. Games selected during registration are then organised in the "Gaming Preference" Tab of each event, which can be used to help find others at our events that want to play games you enjoy. We plan to further improve this over time in various ways.
- Probably some other stuff about an aggro reset, check back for more.
