Rust LAN Huh?

Hey Gamers, I just wanted to take some time to talk about what we're working on for Rust (the game) stuff at our LAN parties going forward. This does indeed include LANified! 36: Bandolier. - BloodyIron

In general we are working to build Rust Gaming experiences at our LAN Parties that generally are not something you can find online. The Rust Server we will be running at our LAN Parties will only be accessible to gamers in the BYO LAN Section, so nobody from the internet or elsewhere can connect. Everyone on the server will be in the same room with you. I think this will add a unique level of excitement to the experience of Rust throughout the full duration of our events (May LAN is 3-days non-stop).

This Rust Server will be used by three unique groups of Gamers:

  1. Rust Tournament Participants (PvP)
  2. Rust Non-Tournament Participants (PvP)
  3. Rust Non-Tournament Participants (PvE)

We are developing appropirate mechanisms such that all three groups can play on the same Rust Server simultaneously, and each group has a proper experience for their own interests and needs. Yes, PvE and PvP activities will be going on simultaneously on the same server, and we are working hard to get all those ins and outs sorted. There will be protections to prevent each group from messing with the experience of the other groups, but to very specific degrees. Many details are not yet finalised.

Examples:

  • Rust Non-Tournament Participants (PvP) will probably be allowed to kill Rust Tournament Participants (PvP), and vice versa.
  • We want gamers of all groups to be able to trade items with each other, without breaking any experience related rules for each other.
  • Neither PvP group will be able to harm any PvE Gamer, but we may implement limited exceptions that we are exploring.

There will be a LOT more details to come about what we are going to be doing for Rust at our LAN Parties and other Gaming Events. We are wanting to strike a vanilla-ish experience (no yield increases, for example) but for the Tournament Group we want there to be a LOT more to do than Vanilla that is compelling.

Hope to see you at our events! I can't wait to have exciting huge Rust stupid adventures at our LANs. I think it's going to be GLORIOUS!
